It's Time to Warm Up for the 2011 Cox Providence Rhode Races—Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K

The Cox Providence Rhode Races will run for the fourth time on April 30 and May 1, 2011, and they are fast becoming true classics. Terrific organization and strong, supportive sponsorship, commitment to charities, an ideal date and innovative ideas, not to mention awesome venues and facilities, make these races big hits with the New England running community and beyond. And Providence is beautiful in springtime.

There were over 5,700 participants last year, making it one of the largest road racing events in New England, the national hotbed of road racing. Spring marathons are a New England tradition; but there have been few options beyond Boston, especially for southern New England. This top-flight race weekend in a world-class city helps to fill the void and satisfy the enormous demand from the B.A.A. Boston closure.

We suggest that you register early and save. Don't wait until January to establish that racing goal for 2011—resolve to do it now!

Warm up this winter with the Cox Rhode Races and you could win big!
Register for the Cox Sports Marathon or Half Marathon by December 15, 2010 and you will receive a VIP Rhode Races Gift Bag. You will also be entered into a raffle for a chance to win the grand prize--a Cox Providence Rhode Races Weekend VIP Package. The grand prize winner will receive two nights stay (April 29 and 30, 2011) at the Westin Hotel in downtown Providence. The winner will be chosen in a random drawing on December 15, 2010. Don't miss out, register now at and set your goal.

Ideal holiday gift or stocking stuffer for that special runner in your life
Searching for that perfect holiday gift? How about an entry into the Cox Sports Marathon, half marathon or 5K? Wouldn't this make a perfect holiday gift for the running enthusiast on your list? Or maybe even for yourself? How about a New Year's Resolution? Get something all runners really want, and check that off your list. Plus, you will provide the recipient with a goal and reason to train this spring. It's timely, thoughtful, and shows that you have a personal appreciation and respect for their efforts. (Of course, you get to go with them if they win the weekend get-away!)

With top-notch sponsorship, these races have been national class right out of the gate. And they are running largely in downtown Providence with the start lines and finish lines at Exchange Terrace and Kennedy Plaza. These races are instrumental in raising money for charities as well, including the now famous Leukemia Lymphoma Team in Training, American Cancer Society, and the Cox Charities and others. Pick a distance and make plans to visit Providence the weekend of April 29 - May 1. Enjoy a "Weekend of Family Fun."

When we say races for everyone that is not an exaggeration; they have three different races, but also competition on many levels. These races provide the framework for a fun-filled weekend with friends, family, and teammates in one of America's most interesting and historical cities.

And if friends and family cannot or do not wish to compete, they can still participate as volunteers and enjoy the event from a different perspective. Please see the Race Website for additional race details, race sponsors and partners, volunteer opportunities, previous results, schedule, excellent course maps, attractions (what to do in Providence), hotel accommodations, participating charities, training information, directions and transportation.

The Cox Sports Marathon and Half Marathon start and finish in the same location, with both blasting off at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, May1. The 5K has been moved to Saturday, April 30 and will serve to kick off the Cox Rhode Races Weekend. Plans are also in the works for a kids' race so the whole family can participate in a fun-filled weekend.
