Joliet Iron Works: After the Whistle Blows Tour
Joliet Iron Works Historic Site Columbia Street Joliet, IL 60432 Organized by Forest Preserve District of Will CountyAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this program is over. The last meeting was Thursday, June 2, 2022.
Which city carries the nickname “City of Steel and Stone?” Joliet’s once-thriving industrial plant rivaled Pittsburgh’s steel power. Explore the stone foundations that are more than 100 years old while an interpretive naturalist shares the fascinating stories of the men and machines that worked at the Joliet Iron Works Historic Site. Find out why the hard-working employees were happy when their shifts ended! After the tour wraps up, or “the whistle blows,” continue the experience by meeting at MyGrain Brewing Co. to enjoy a refreshing locally brewed drink and admire another Joliet landmark, Union Station. Participants are responsible for their own food and drink costs.
All participants must be 21 or older.
Paved walkways at Joliet Iron Works Historic Site are accessible on this 1-mile tour.
