In the shadows of the Green Mountains at Branbury State Park, this triathlon swims in Lake Dunmore and bikes and runs on the rolling hills surrounding the lake. The sprint tri totals 600 yards of swimming, 14 miles on the bike and 3.1 miles of running.

Island Lake, about 45 minutes outside of Detroit, is a prime training spot for many triathletes. It's now a race spot. This sprint tri (800-meter swim, 12.4-mile bike ride, 5K run) is part of a series raced in the spring, summer and fall.
Granite Bay Triathlon

Dubbed "California's toughest sprint triathlon," this race won't overwhelm you with distance but rather by the course layout. The 13-mile bike course is windy with a few tight turns and sharp hills (organizers would prefer you ride the course ahead of time). The 5-mile run is partly off-road on single track trails.
Lake Meridian Triathlon

A deep-water swim start is the first challenge of the day; after a 1/2-mile swim, sprint triathletes go on a 15.8-mile bike ride on rural roads before finishing with a 5K run on the Soos Creek Trail.

Taking place in downtown Long Beach, the tri starts in the protected waters of the downtown marina (with the famous Queen Mary ship within sight) before biking and running through the downtown streets. The run is almost exclusively along the coastline.
Nickel City Triathlon

This is a super-fast race with a closed, draft-legal bike course. The Nickel City Triathlon doubled as the USAT Elite National Championships in 2011 and 2012, and you can run the same course as some of the top triathletes in the country.

This women-only triathlon takes place around Diamond Head, one of Oahu's most famous landmarks. The ocean swim and transition area is at Kapiolani Park adjacent to the extinct volcano.
Atlantic City Triathlon

Bike along the Atlantic City Expressway and run on the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. The 1/4-mile swim, 10-mile bike ride and 5K run is held in conjunction with the Atlantic City Seafood Festival at Bader Field.
