Instructor: Leila Stephanie
We’re excited to introduce “Working On Acting Habits (WOAH!)” During this five-week class, students will learn methods to thoroughly develop a character, along with techniques in monologue and scene performance. Participants will discuss their favorite plays, television shows, and movies to establish what they enjoy most in the performing arts. They will participate in improvisation games and rehearse various monologues and scenes. There will also be incredible guest speakers. Leila Stephanie is a Newport News native who developed her passion for acting as a young child attending Hilton Elementary. Throughout the years, she furthered her passion as an avid member of the Drama Club at Heritage High School, and performed with the Peninsula Community Theater in Newport News. Leila received her Bachelor’s Degree from Norfolk State University, where she was a member of the NSU Players and the NSU Theatre Company. There she performed in a number of shows such as, The Amen Corner, Kansas City, Dream Girls, For Colored Girls…, The Whitney Houston Tribute, and a host of other shows. Leila Stephanie obtained her Master’s in Performing Arts from Savannah College of Art & Design in 2017 and spent time acting while in Atlanta, GA. Leila is currently back in Virginia, hoping to share her experience with the community. She wishes to ignite and nurture the same passion that was instilled in her long ago.
