This is a skills progression toward increasingly challenging outdoor adventures leading up to a final backpacking expedition. This program creates an outdoor experiential programming Pod on a weekly basis. Students will participate in 5 weekly Wednesday afternoon outings lead by Pod Facilitator Hollie Bates and 4 'remote' sessions lead by Hollie and Dan Coyle (see below). Dates for remote programming (field trip, camping, backpacking) may flex to accommodate School Covid schedule changes and to better work for participating families. Wednesday afternoon outings alternate between outdoor skills sessions to prepare for overnight trips & hiking forays to prepare physically for backpacking travel. Attendees meet the group at locales designated in advance by Hollie. Transport during remote trips will require mask wearing and windows will be open so wear warm clothes. No Wednesday afternoon sessions the weeks of field trips, camping trip and backpacking trip (see dates below). Field/Remote trips will occur on the following 4 dates (subject to change). Times are for departure from/return to Coyle Outside. Field trips - 4/21 & 5/5, 9a-5p. Overnight camping - 5/15-16, 10a-5p. Backpacking 6/11-13, 10a-5p. Families may transport students themselves if preferred. Destinations TBD and will incorporate student feedback/input. Program designed to assess for, mentor in and develop confidence, initiative and leadership through collaborative adventuring. Programming will be, progressively, student lead. Instructors initially provide guidance and then increasingly challenge students to create, plan and organize trips. Trips designed to meet the following 4 criteria. Adventurous - Logistically well planned - Clear objectives (skills/projects) - Challenging. Families are responsible for outdoor gear/food on remote trips. Coyle Outside will work with students/families to make sure students are prepared for trips.
