This course introduces students to mixed media art through the various styles and methods of contemporary and historic mixed media artists. Students will be encouraged to combine the use of familiar and unfamiliar media in order to explore alternative methods and discover unconventional solutions. Bring an experimental mindset. Max. 5 This class is held in person with physical distancing and mask requirements Supply List Initial Supplies (for the first class): • Sketch pad, suitable for mixed media or Bristol Board pad, medium finish, approx. 14" x 17” • Sharpened drawing pencil (2H, H, or HB recommended) • Eraser • Magazines with interesting imagery • Scissors and/or X-acto knife Additional Supplies: Due to the nature of the subject matter, more supplies will be required after the first class. These supplies depend on individual mixed media direction. Instructor: Brett Callero About the instructor: Brett Callero has been a professional artist for nearly 30 years. He has taught numerous college level courses as well as upper level painting, drawing and design courses. Prior to his years of college-level classroom teaching experience, he worked many years in Chicago as a graphic designer and art director. In these diverse work environments, he has been a teacher, leader, manager and conductor of creativity and critical thinking. Presently he is an adjunct faculty member at Kennesaw State University and Georgia Gwinnett College teaching art appreciation and studio art courses. From 2007-2018, he was a Professor of Foundation Studies at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Atlanta. He has proven effectiveness as an educator and has guided thousands of students toward meeting and exceeding their artistic goals.
