Her Story: Karen Neely, Running Strong for Over 25 Years

Sports: Running, hiking, swimming
Age: 42
Profession: High school math teacher, cross country track coach, Army reservist

How I got started in sports: In high school, I made the cross country team and have been running ever since.

Favorite spot to be active: Stones River National Battlefield in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Favorite fuel: Maple and brown sugar oatmeal.

Favorite indulgence: Moose Tracks ice cream.

Life/sport philosophy: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."? Isaiah 40:31.

Athletic highlights: Qualifying for Boston with my first marathon, finishing Boston in 2005 and placing first in my age group at the Army Birthday 10-Miler at Ft. Bragg this year.

Athletic goals: To complete a triathlon.

When I'm not running, hiking or swimming, I'm: Playing taxi driver to my three children (Julie Anne, 15; Daniel, 14; and Jonathan, 10).

Other interesting facts: I've been in the Army Reserves for 22 years and was recently promoted to lieutenant colonel. Also, I am serving in Iraq this summer.
