Flex Leagues: More Tennis, More Fun
Just over a year after launching, and over 10,000 league registrations later, LeagueTennis.com has become one of the premiere online flex league programs.
Offering fun, affordable and competitive singles, doubles and mixed doubles leagues four times a year, League Tennis.com currently offers both adult and junior leagues in Atlanta and adult leagues in Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin and San Antonio, with plans for broader markets in 2009.
"We had a vision of creating a flex league that was more affordable, yet offered superior customer service and technology," said LeagueTennis.com co-founder Tricia Reeks. "And we wanted to offer a variety of formats so players could manage their schedules in one place."
Following the flexible league format, players sign up online for singles or doubles leagues.? Players are then grouped into divisions based on playing levels and general location and provided with a competitive schedule of opponents.? The flexible aspect allows players to schedule their matches when it is convenient to their schedules -- as long as they play each match by its deadline.
Schedules include five or six matches played over an eight-week period followed by playoffs to determine city champions at each playing level in the leagues.
The entire league is managed through the website, LeagueTennis.com.? Everything a player needs to schedule and connect with opponents is available online; you can register for leagues, view schedules and standings, and report scores.? LeagueTennis.com also provides a "Find a Partner" feature to help players find a partner for their doubles leagues.
"The most rewarding element [in creating LeagueTennis.com] has been the incredible reception," said Reeks. "In my years of playing flex leagues, I had never actually spoken to or heard from anyone in the leagues other than automated emails reminding me of registration. We spend a great deal of time on an informative monthly newsletter and various activities that are designed to engage our players, including tennis tips that feature LeagueTennis.com players."
One of the best benefits of LeagueTennis.com is their referral program.? When a player refers another player to the league, they earn two LeagueTennis dollars every time the referred player pays to register in one or more leagues.? These dollars add up quickly and can be used to pay for registrations or redeemed for gift cards.? Many of the players taking advantage of this program have already referred enough regular players that they no longer pay to play in the leagues.
Here are a few more highlights of LeagueTennis.com's online flex leagues:
The flexible scheduling is perfect for players who have unpredictable schedules or simply aren't available at the time a fixed league plays. At the onset of the season, schedules are posted designating opponents and whether the match is home or away. Players/Teams contact their opponents and schedule their matches by a published deadline at a time convenient to all.
Tennis At Your Fingertips
Players create a profile online then register for upcoming leagues based on their playing level. Players/Teams post their scores for each completed match and track their standings during the regular season.
Players/Teams choose a home court when registering and are placed in divisions based on their level and location with an attempt to minimize driving distance to away matches for the regular season.
Leagues are offered winter spring summer and fall, so players have the opportunity to play all year long.
Traditional leagues are great, but with any team format, not every player gets lots of play time. With flexible leagues, you play every match! And at the end of the regular season, all division winners and runners-up are automatically qualified for an opt-in championship tournament for their level -- an opportunity for up to five more matches.
Improve Your Game
Since flexible tennis is tailored to the individual player or doubles team, it is a great way for players to work on specific areas of their game without the worry of "letting the team down."? This freedom allows players to hone skills they might otherwise be too afraid to try in a competitive team league.
Winners of each division, and the City Champion and finalist, receive a Bag Tag, and the adult City Champions at each playing level will receive a $25 gift card and t-shirt.
