Nashville also hosts an equally unique running event, the Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. Come Saturday, April 24, there'll be a whole lot of shakin' going on.
Mix great running with the diverse and legendary sounds of Nashville and you have an event that lives up to Music City's distinctive reputation. With a new flatter and faster course, bands every mile, hundreds of cheerleaders and a post-race concert featuring Brad Paisley, 15,000 participants will rock Music City.
Once considered challenging, the newly designed flatter and faster marathon and half-marathon courses dart through some of Nashville's most scenic sights. Three of the hardest sections of the marathon course have been creatively eliminated -- knocking out 5 miles of hills.
Both races start together in beautiful Centennial Park on West End Avenue. Bands on the course carry participants through Music Row, Belmont University and Bicentennial Mall. The fantastic Nashville skyline comes into view as the course runs past the State Capitol Building and beautiful Shelby Park before finishing outside of The Coliseum, home of the Tennessee Titans.
Participants are treated to 50 live bands on 28 entertainment stages playing all types of music. In addition, hundreds of high school cheerleaders and 100,000 spectators will be on hand to motivate runners and walkers to the finish line.
A two-day Fitness and Music expo precedes the Saturday race with 75 exhibitors featuring everything from free samples, the latest running shoes and sports apparel to health and nutrition products.
The Country Music Marathon & 1/2 Marathon post-race concert awaits participants, family and friends in downtown Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Center. Brad Paisley, one of country music's hottest young stars, is set to rock the stage on April 24 and cap a day full of excitement and accomplishment.
