The Lifesaving and First Aid Instructor program is a 44-hour course that trains participants to teach and evaluate Lifesaving Society programs, including the following major components: water proficiency, first aid, and emergency recognition and response.
This program includes classroom and water activities - 100% attendance and participation are required.
Completion Criteria:
• Attend and participate in 100 % of the course.
• Successfully demonstrate competency in required skills, activities and final evaluation.
Pre-Course Requirements:
• 16 years of age.
• Bronze Cross (or higher)
• Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR-C from one of the following agencies: Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Lifesaving Society, Criti-Care, Safety Services Manitoba, or Heart Beat Inc. Manitoba.
Next Lifesaving Level:
• National Lifeguard
Required Course Materials:
Lifesaving & First Aid Instructor binder (approximate cost $120.00 - non-refundable)
Canadian Lifesaving Manual (approximate cost $50.00 - non-refundable)
Leadership Kit including the following items: 1 CPR pocket mask with a 1-way valve, 1 whistle (recommended Fox 40), 6 pairs of latex-free gloves, 2 roller gauzes, 5 triangular bandages, 10 gauze pads, 1 golf pencil , 1 silver mylar blanket (approximate cost $25.00 - non-refundable)
Binders, manual and kits are available for sale at the location the course is being held. Candidates who have some or all of these items from previous courses do not need to purchase new ones.
Awards are mailed to successful participants by the Lifesaving Society. Certification of this award is for 2 years.
