Still Life Painting with Alexander Shanks A six (6) session course No class on 5/25
In This class, students will gain a stronger understanding of materials and techniques while exploring the process of still life painting. This class will include demonstrations by the instructor, personal instruction, discussions and more. Students will emerge from this class with a better understanding of composition, paint handling and problem solving. Students are encouraged to bring their own still life objects.
Supply List: Palette (Preferably 16” x 20” wooden palette) 9”x12” cotton canvases. 16” x 20” is also acceptable. (Toned to a middle value grey with ‘Goldens’ acrylic N6 neutral gray tone) Oil paints (Preferably Windsor Newton Brand): Burnt Sienna Permanent Rose or Quinacridone Red Cadmium Orange Cadmium Red Indian Yellow Viridian French ultramarine Blue Titanium White Brushes: Silver Brush Brand (Or other brands of varying size) Silver Grand Prix Filbert #2 (Bristol) Silver Grand Prix Filbert #4 (Bristol) Silver Grand Prix Filbert #8 Silver Renaissance Sable Cats Tongue #2 Silver Renaissance Sable Cats Tongue #4 Nitrile or vinyl gloves to protect your hands Viva paper towels or cotton rags Glass jar or Silicoil tank jar (for solvent) Mineral Spirits, Sunny side, Gamsol, or similar brand Easel Bulldog clips (if needed to secure canvas or palette to surface)
