We are living in the middle of the Information Age- now, more than ever, people from all across the globe have access to all corners of the internet and its contents. This has also presented the challenge of keeping that information secure and away from prying eyes. Working in teams, you will get a chance to make codes, break codes, send secret messages, intercept communications, and so much more! Led by a team of university students, you will get to explore encryption using a wide range of hands-on and digital techniques and experience everything from old-school cryptography wheels to the latest and greatest of digital technology. This event is offered in cooperation with the Quantum Algorithm Institute. This event is targeted at all girls in grades 8, 9, 10. We have an inclusive view of the word ‘girl’ and we welcome trans*, genderqueer and non-binary folks interested in these events. The health and safety of our participants, staff, and of everyone in our community is of priority here at Geering Up. We are continuing to follow the BC Centre for Disease Control and UBC's guidelines in regards to Covid-19 safety and we will notify you in case of any updates impacting these events.
