We are pleased to announce the return of our "Dig to Ride" mountain bike camp; a unique mountain bike camp that combines a fun, community service, and natural resources education component for area youth. Campers of all riding abilities will learn the skills needed to improve their riding performance as well as what goes into building sustainable trails through some hands-on community service with the Caledonia Trail Collaborative. The camp will be led by PMBIA certified mountain bike instructor Joe Fox. Joe serves as St. Johnsbury Recreation Director and Caledonia Trail Collaborative Vice President. He will be assisted by returning camp counselor and avid mountain biker Bryna McCarty. Bryna most recently worked as a full-time ski coach at Burke Mountain Academy and has over a decade of experience coaching youth of all ages. Campers will: Fine-tune balance and stability and thereby increase safety, efficiency, and confidence on bikes in varying terrain. Increase proficiency in: Reading terrain Operation of controls Climbing Descending Cornering In addition, they will get the opportunity to be a part of a long-lasting trail project that will be used by hundreds of people. But most importantly... CAMPERS WILL HAVE A BLAST! Important info: Due to the demands put on bikes by the terrain we will be riding, we must insist that campers bring modern "shop quality" bikes that are the proper size and in sound mechanical condition to camp. We recommend bikes with a minimum of front suspension, disc brakes, and thumb shifters. (Grip shifters can present some safety issues) We also tend to favor "1 by" drive trains. (Just one front chainring) They tend to rapidly increase the learning curve when teaching novice riders as well as the odds of mechanical issues as there is only one derailleur to worry about. Dropper posts are a bonus. If you're unsure about the suitability of your child's bike for camp, or to arrange rentals, please contact Joe at
