Engineering Diplomacy: A Summer with Rube Goldberg and the United Nations Grades: 5-7 Block: 8:30-11:45 Instructor- Summer Cervantez Lab Fee: $50 In this block course, students will have the ability to utilize their critical thinking skills in two different engaging and applied ways. First, students will learn about different countries and world issues while simulating a mini Model United Nations. Students will learn about a country of their choice and represent that country on a mini diplomatic stage. Second, students will explore the wacky and wonderful engineering world of Rube Goldberg, learn about basic engineering and physics principles, and design and build their own Rube Goldberg machines. Students will be actively involved with research, public speaking, and hands-on, collaborative learning. This block course offers the maximum opportunity for students to have a creative, challenging day, while minimizing concerns over Covid.
