About this event

Chainsawing is a predominantly male profession and there are many obstacles for women who are interested in cutting or are already cutters. Finding PPE that fits properly and is comfortable can be very challenging, but it is the stereotypes around chainsawing and the environment at the workplace that can be the biggest barriers. Our goal with this course is to create a space where women can feel comfortable to learn and develop their chainsawing skills. The course itself is identical to our Chainsaw Safety I & II course. We will work on basic saw use, bore cutting, maintenance, felling small diameter trees, bucking and limbing. It is a two day course that aims to give you a solid foundation in both the mechanical theory and practical elements of cutting. Required Equipment: - Chainsaw Pants - Class 1 Chainsaw Boots - Chainsaw helmet with ear and eye protection (if you do not have one we can provide you with one) Optional Equipment: - A chainsaw - Chainsawing gloves - Maintenance equipment If you have any questions, feel free to contact Eric Edward at ericedward@macphailwoods.org or Alena MacLean at alenamaclean@macphailwoods.org
