Bluebird populations greatly declined from the 1930s to the 1960s, but thanks to the Audubon Society, the DNR, and Minnesota bluebird lovers, they are once again thriving! Minnesota now has one of the most successful bluebird recovery projects in the nation! Walk the Gateway Trail with the former Executive Director of the Gateway Brown's Creek Trail Association, Dennis Lindeke, as he introduces us to the bluebird nesting project along the trail. Learn how to identify the bluebird, their call, migration, nesting habits, the bluebird house project, and help Dennis with his weekly bluebird count. This time of the year, there should even be eggs in the nests! Learn how you can build houses that will bring bluebirds to your backyard.
Wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and bug and tick spray for walking along the trail.
$20 per person ($5 will go to GBCTA to help bluebirds)
