Prerequisite: Some experience in water media painting In this three day workshop, we will cover all the essential techniques of handling transparent watercolor through the use of still life setups and landscape references. You will learn how to control watercolor through the use of glazes and washes; how to paint wet-into-wet; create soft edges in your work; how to create textures in watercolor; how and why to incorporate dry brush techniques in your paintings; and more. Supplies: A large watercolor palette – recommended: Robert Wood palette (available at David Art) Three watercolor brushes: sizes 6 or 8, 12, and 16 A 1” or 2” flat brush for applying washes (Recommended: Robert Simmons synthetic brushes – cheap and durable!) Small water sprayer for wetting your watercolors 2 containers for rinsing your brushes (e.g., glass jar or plastic cup) Paper towels Notebook and pen Drafting or masking tape Bring whatever additional types of watercolor brushes you own; we’ll discuss all the different types and their uses in the first class *In the first class I will give a color demonstration, using all my favorite watercolor brands to show you the wide range of options that are available to you. If you want to wait and purchase your paints after that demo, that is fine. Just bring whatever you have on hand.* Arches 140 lb. watercolor paper
