Rookie Rooks / Novice and Beginner Chess This warm and inviting entry-level chess class is designed and paced for novice players eager to learn and build on chess fundamentals. Rookie Rook Beginners will quickly learn piece movement, captures and essential checkmating patterns, while Rookie Rook Novice players will boost their chess fundamentals with the principals of chess opening and middle game strategies. Instructors use a series of group lessons and interactive mini-games, in addition to worksheet puzzles, chess videos and helpful thinking music, to help players develop a love for the beautiful game of chess, all the while enjoying thoughtful social time with friends! Each lesson emphasizes critical thinking, problem solving and strategic planning, and of course plenty of time for practical over-the-board practice play.
