Eligibility/Age Guidelines: League ages 10, 11 & 12 who have played one year of AAA Ball.
Player Evaluations: All players must be evaluated to be placed in this division.
Division Overview: The pitching distance is 50’ and the bases are set at 70’. Leadoffs, pickoffs, dropped third strikes, and balks are enforced in this division. The pitching is very advanced, with fastballs usually in the 50-60 MPH range and off-speed pitches commonplace. Hit baseballs (line drives) can often exceed 100 MPH! Players should only register for this program if they are fully prepared to participate at this most advanced level of Cal Ripken play.
Any 12-year-old who has played the past three or more years at Los Altos and registers for the Major division is guaranteed to be drafted onto a Major team (unless deemed to be a safety hazard by a unanimous vote of the Major division managers; in this case, the player(s) will be moved to the AAA division).
Recommendation: All 11 and 10-year-olds who register for the Majors division are eligible to be drafted onto a Majors team but are not guaranteed to be picked for a Majors team. Teams are formed purely via a draft process, and when the allotted numbers of teams are filled, the remaining players will be moved down into the AAA level. Since 12-year-olds with 3+ years of experience must be picked in Majors, at some point in the draft 11 and 10-year-olds will no longer be eligible to be drafted onto a Majors team in order to leave room for the remaining 12-year-olds. Final determination of the players and what division they will play in will be handled by the Division Director Committee; any issues with the placement of a player should be taken up with the Majors Division Director.
Teams will practice two times per week (days and times TBD) and there are two games per week with one on Saturday and a mid-week game.
