About this event

Description

Students will paint from their own sketches or photographs, with special emphasis on color, composition, and texture with less emphasis on rendering specific detail. The instructor nudges each student toward expanding their horizons while focusing on their individual skills and goals. Students will paint with large brushes and palette knives, in their choice of oils or acrylics.













Supplies:

1. Notebook or Sketchbook, Pen or pencil, Apron

2. Photos (your own please) or sketches to use as refrence

3. Canvas Panels or Stretched Canvas 8 x10 or 11 x 14, or panel or canvas paper or gessoed heavy paper.

4. Solvent: Please bring Gamsol or Odorless Terpenoid

4 Medium Linseed oil, or Galkyd (by Gamblin), or for quicker drying, I like Weber Resingel. (or acrylic medium for acrylic paint)

5. Jars with lids for oil solvent and medium

6. Brushes: Large flat bristle, small animal hair for details and other types and sizes you like; palette knife (1 or more indifferent sizes)

7. Palette: I like a large butcher's tray with palette paper. You could just use the palette paper pad as a palette, or any other big flat white sealed surface.

8. Cotton rags/paper towels

9 Paints: Oil of Acrylic: Ideally your minimum group would include:

Big tube of white (I like Permalba, otherwise Titanium White),

Yellow: One warm: Cadmium Yellow Medium , One cool: Lemon, Cadmium Yellow pale or Hansa Yellow pale

Blue: One warm: Ultramarine, One cool Cerulean or Prussian, And colbalt is a good "true" blue

Red: One warm: Idian Red or Vermillion, One cool: Alizarin Crimson

Green One warm: Sap Green, One Cool Phthalo, Viridian, or Hooker

Violet: One warm Cobalt Violet, One cool Dioxezine Violet

Brown: One warm Burnt Sienna, preferably, or Burnt Umber, One cool: Raw Umber or Van Dyke

And other earth colors: Paynes Grey, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna; If you're buying some of these for the first time, specify the "hue" version of cobalt and cadmium colors to save expense. If you don't have all these, bring whatever you have. A good student brand for oil painters is Dale Rowney Georgian.
