The beautiful and ancient section of the Black River where the Three Sisters Swamp lies is home to 2,000 year old bald cypress along with flora and fauna unique to this area. This peaceful but challenging 10-to-12-mile paddle is on the must-do list for many experienced kayakers!
Please note: This trip is 10 to 12 miles and will take between 6 and 7 hours. It is not for beginners and is instead an intermediate level trip. There will be several stops to stretch, snack, and socialize. Food and water will not be provided; please plan to bring your own and pack out your trash.
The full program fee ($90) includes the use of a kayak, paddle, and personal flotation device (PFD), which must be worn at all times on the water. Tandem kayaks can be provided for those who would like to paddle together and can be requested during registration; both paddlers in the tandem must be registered participants.
For this trip, a reduced program fee ($75) is charged for those participants who wish to use their own kayak, paddle, and PFD (USCG approved). These participants are given an opportunity to select this option during registration, but are responsible for transporting their own equipment and still must wear their PFDs at all times. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
All programs are subject to change based on weather, the ongoing pandemic, and minimum program enrollment. If you register for a program that is canceled or postponed, you will be notified by staff.
Restrooms: it is unlikely that any restrooms will be available before, during, or after any of our trips. Some trips (Eagles Island) may not involve getting out of our kayaks. Please plan accordingly.
Shoes: please wear shoes for the duration of each trip. Water shoes or sandals that will not slide or pull off in mud, muck, or sand under water are appropriate. No flip flops please.
Water/snacks: Please bring plenty of water and your own snacks as you wish. Drinking water will not be provided. Some but not all trips will include breaks for snacks. For those that do not include stops (Eagles Island), you may still wish to have a snack in the boat with you. Please be prepared to pack all of your trash out with you.
Sunscreen/Bug spray: Please bring/use your own sunscreen and bug spray. Most of the trips we will go on are buggy and kayaking is a great way to get sunburned legs and forearms!
