We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Tuesday, September 21, 2021.
This trip will be guided by Mahanaim Adventures.
This area of nearby Onslow and Pender Counties provides a beautiful backdrop for our morning paddle down four and a half miles of Holly Shelter Creek including a small swamp. Surrounded by native cypress, holly, and oaks, and perhaps offering a glimpse of wildlife up close, this trip promises to be a unique and intimate experience.
This trip is a great opportunity to escape from the hustle and bustle of the Leland and Wilmington area with a slow easy paddle on a blackwater creek. Appropriate for experienced paddlers and those looking to gain experience as well, this easy paddle is truly a one-size-fits-all trip.
The program fee includes the use of a kayak, paddle, and personal flotation device (PFD), which must be worn at all times on the water. Tandem kayaks can be provided for those who would like to paddle together and can be requested during registration; both paddlers in the tandem must be registered participants.
Participants who wish to use their own kayak, paddle, and/or PFD may do so and are given an opportunity to make note during registration, but must still wear their PFDs at all times. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
All programs are subject to change based on weather, the ongoing pandemic, and minimum program enrollment. If you register for a program that is canceled or postponed, you will be notified by staff.
Restrooms: it is unlikely that any restrooms will be available before, during, or after any of our trips. Some trips (Eagles Island) will not involve getting out of our kayaks. Please plan accordingly.
Shoes: please wear shoes for the duration of this trip. Water shoes or sandals that will not slide or pull off in mud, muck, or sand under water are appropriate. No flip flops please.
Water/snacks: Please bring plenty of water and your own snacks as you wish. Drinking water will not be provided. Some but not all trips will include breaks for snacks. For those that do not include stops (Eagles Island), you may still wish to have a snack in the boat with you. Please be prepared to pack all of your trash out with you.
Sunscreen/Bug spray: Please bring/use your own sunscreen and bug spray. Most of the trips we will go on are buggy and kayaking is a great way to get sunburned legs and forearms!
