This course will concentrate on the basic techniques of rendering a head & shoulder portrait likeness. It will begin with understanding the powerful elements & principles of art particularly form, value, texture, proportion, the interplay of light & shadow, etc. General characteristics of faces from various vantage points will be discussed, demonstrated, & practiced, after which the class will concentrate on capturing the subtle differences that make each face unique. From there, each student will draw a portrait of their own choosing. This class, while standing on its own merits, is designed to flow into the next course of Watercolor Portraits for those who want to continue in another medium. All levels but some prior drawing experience helpful. *A supply list & directions can be downloaded from GHIA website or sent upon registration. Instructor: Carol Kelly Dorn Location: Evans Studio
