About this event
Students will be building a foundation of essential conducting and score study skills. The class will improve your ability to read the intentions behind a conductor's gestures and to be a better leader or follower in any musical group. Students will work on beat patterns, beat preparation and cueing, sustaining notes, musical phrasing, tempo and meter change, body language, how to use different parts of your arms, who to conduct, who leads and who follows, and using the eyes and face. Additionally, students will learn how to score study and to properly read a score. No baton required. There will be additional times offered on Saturday for this class. This class is open to students in Civic Concert Band, Civic Symphonic Band, Civic Concert String Orchestra, Civic Philharmonic, Wind Ensemble, Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra.
