Description
Penny for Your Thoughts: A penny by itself may not be worth very much,but the science a penny can do is priceless! Learn about what a penny is madeof — copper — and then do experiments that will help us discover somecharacteristics of copper. While a handful of pennies may not be worth verymuch, a handful of pennies can be a bit heavy, so you'll be using pennies totest the weight of the bucket towers you make. Use pennies to help makeamazing balancing robots. Learn about a famous landmark that is made ofcopper, use what you discovered during experiments to learn more about thelandmark, and make a themed craft that you'll be able to take home.Once Upon a Time STEM Edition: Participate in STEM challenges basedon popular fairy tales. Work to build a house that will withstand the Big,Bad Wolf's huff & puff. Next, partner with Robin to create an accurate bow& arrow. Be the knight in shining armor when you engineer an escape forRapunzel. This combination of STEM and literature is a great way to spend aday off of school!
That’s Gross!: Get ready to be grossed out as you get hands on with the grossparts of science. Grow your own bacteria, make your own gross bird barf, doan experiment about germs, and dissect owl pellets. Young scientists, comelearn while having fun and becoming an expert in Grossology.
Young Crime Scene Investigators: Learn how real crime scene investigatorsgather evidence and help solve crimes! Learn how to lift fingerprints fromobjects, extract DNA, analyze hair and fiber samples, and make your ownfingerprint cards. Will you be the next Howard County Crime Scene Detective?
“STEM”sgiving: Join us for the day with a series of Thanksgiving-themedscience activities! Create a sweet potato battery and learn how it works.Become an engineer and create different Cranberry Structures. Next, becomea chemist and create your own Cranberry Oobleck. Create a simple circuit bymaking your own LED Light Up Turkey. Projects go home at the end of the day.
