Ever wanted to learn how to coal forge? Whether you are a beginner or are an experienced smith who is looking for a new challenge, this is the class for you! Nothing says summer like a campfire and gooey s’mores! In this class, students will create their own split-tine marshmallow fork while learning the fundamentals of coal forging, such as forge startup and fire maintenance. At the end of the session, students will have the option to test out their roasting fork in the tastiest way possible—by toasting marshmallows! [Note: We will NOT be roasting over the coal fire!] By the end of the 2-hour class, students will be able to: -Recognize heat changes by the color of the metal (an extra challenge in an outdoor coal forge!) -Safely use a chisel to split bar stock. -Work over the edges of the anvil to taper and form fork tines. -Twist and shape the fork according to personal design. Get ready to get your hands dirty and have an absolute blast!! Because we may be forging outside, be sure to bring sunscreen, hats, and any other desired sun protection.
