Nestled between Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, False Cape State Park is one of the last remaining undeveloped areas along the Atlantic coast. The 4,500-acre refuge was established in 1938 as a vital place for migratory birds to rest and gather food. This pristine area, south of the busy Virginia Beach area, remains a breathtaking place to explore. Arrive in the afternoon at the adjacent Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center where you will board a tram for an approximate 2-hour trip into False Cape. This guided tour includes stops at the Wash Woods Historic site (approximate 1-mile, easy round-trip walk), scenic overviews of the water and a stop at the False Cape Visitor Center. Along the way, you'll want to be on the lookout for unique wildlife. Your day will first start at the Virginia Beach Farmer’s Market where you will enjoy a presentation on the agriculture of Virginia Beach followed by time to browse the many merchants. Enjoy lunch, buffet style, in their covered pavilion that consists of a soup, sweet potato biscuits with country ham, a dessert, beverage and a sample scoop of ice cream.
