About this event

Dates: Ends Nov 14 Tuesdays, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM During this fall drawing session, the class will focus on methods of drawing from observation using a variety of art tools and materials. Participants will investigate why drawing from observation can help us to learn about and see the world around us more clearly. They will practice drawing from a live model, anatomical drawing, and plein air drawing, building their technical skills of hand-eye coordination in the process. Teens will gain a better understanding of the principles of art in drawing while learning about line quality, perspective, form and proportion, light and shadow, negative/positive space, and composition. Join this class and improve your drawing skills while exploring your creative voice! Instructor Bio: Ali Vaughan is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Bay Area who works between sculpture and drawing. Her work investigates the confluence of geology and the body. She has exhibited work at the de Young Museum, the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, the Coulter Gallery, West Magazine, and the Stanford Art Gallery. She was a metal arts resident at the Steel Yard in Providence, RI, and most recently a resident at Radio28 Creative Studios in Mexico City.  Ali received was a dual major and received her BA in Art Practice (with honors) and Art History at Stanford University.  In her teaching, she believes that artmaking can foster resilience, focus, investigation, and self-reflection, and is interested in allowing students to explore various mediums as means of self-expression, including drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture. As an educator and artist, she works with students to understand the different possibilities and challenges of different mediums, and feel that they have the freedom and confidence to move between them to express personally meaningful narratives.
