Description
Grades 10th - Adult. Learn one of the oldest pottery techniques, dating back to Neolithic times. In sgraffito pottery, the artist uses a layer of colored slip or underglaze that is painted over the clay. Fine carving tools are used to scrape away sections, leaving behind detailed, high-contrast line drawings or patterns. Your Imagination is the limit! Create beautiful pots or platters with this ancient art.
Class size is limited to allow access to equipment and assistance from the instructor. To maintain a reasonable number of participants in the studio, you may only attend class on the day of the week for which you are registered. Please do not show up to another section if you have missed your scheduled section unless you have contacted the instructor. Fee includes one 10lb bag of clay (either red or white). Full scholarship participants pay $25 to cover materials. Additional clay can be purchased from Rovin Ceramics. Instructor will let you know when pieces are ready for pick up (around 2 weeks after class ends). Due to limited space and high demand for adult pottery classes, Rec & Ed is unable to offer senior discounts. Additionally, each scholarship recipient can only use their scholarship toward an adult pottery class once per fiscal year. Instructor: Cayla Samano. 2 classes.
