Triathletes begin the race at Palmilla Beach in a mass swim start into a protected bay. The 2014 event will feature a new, flatter bike course that begins at Palmilla Club and then out onto a boulevard that offers view of the Sea of Cortez. The run course takes racers on a flat route past several well-known sites including the downtown main plaza and Puerto Los Cabos.

One of the world's top training destinations for triathletes finally has a full-distance Ironman event. The race begins at the Boulder Reservoir with a single loop 2.4-mile swim. The 112-mile one loop bike course goes around Carter Lake and along the eastern plains of the Front Range before heading into downtown. The race finishes with a two-loop run course almost entirely on Boulder Creek Trail.

This race might be flat and fast, but it has its share of challenges. The first half of the ocean swim through crystal clear water is against the current and the wind and humidity can shave minutes off a triathlete's time. Then again, you are on a beautiful island. The 2013 race will be held in December. Check back after the race has been held to register for the 2014 event.
