COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Mercyhurst College, which split its weekend series with Niagara University last weekend, holds the No. 1 spot in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll. The Lakers, who edged No. 2 University of Minnesota in this week's poll by one point, collected 181 points and 10 of 19 first-place votes.
Minnesota (180, nine first-place votes), which twice defeated Minnesota State University, retains the No. 2 spot for the ninth straight poll, while Clarkson University (149), which defeated Colgate University and Cornell University, stays at No. 3. The University of New Hampshire (125), which captured two wins against the University of Maine, and the University of Minnesota Duluth (124), which twice defeated the University of North Dakota, take the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
No. 10 Cornell, which also tied St. Lawrence University last weekend, returns to the poll after a two-week absence.
Highlighting this upcoming weekend's games are three top-10 match-ups, including two Western Collegiate Hockey Association contests between No. 2 Minnesota and No. 5 Minnesota Duluth.
NOTES: ECAC Hockey, the Hockey East Association and the WCHA each boast three ranked programs. Mercyhurst is the only ranked College Hockey America team ... A total of 14 teams received votes.
ABOUT THE POLL: The 13th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Women's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the four NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the AHCA and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
