Though summer connotes relaxation, staying in shape is a year-round process. Use these fitness tips to keep your exercise routine on track while on the road.
Book a Hotel with a Gym
This may seem like a no-brainer, but many discount hotels and boutique hotels will not offer a gym on site. If you have booked a hotel without a fitness center, and must use a gym, try to find a local gym where you can take advantage of a very short-term contract.
Map a New Running Route in a New Town
One of the best ways to see a new city is to actually run in it. Not only will you discover new attractions in your host town, you will also alleviate any monotony you have from running a standard route during your vacation.
Rent a Bike
If you are visiting a big city or a small coastal resort, take advantage of a bike shop that offers a rental service. Not only is this a great way to get a workout in, it is most often the most efficient way to get around town.
Incorporate Public Transportation When Possible
If visiting a city like New York, Chicago or Portland, ditch your car and take public transportation. When you get off of the train or bus, you will be able to walk around, see more sights, and burn calories instead of being stuck in traffic and forced to pay high prices for parking.
Exercise Right After a Flight
Jet lag can totally disorient you from your normal fitness routine and leave you tired and exhausted. In order to defeat the jet lag fitness problem, schedule a workout the day before your flight and one right after your flight if at all possible. The effects of jet lag usually kick in within a day or two, so working out right away will help you meet your fitness goals.
