The Nike Elite Youth Basketball League had its second session last weekend in Houston, and the cream is starting to rise to the top.
The EYBL, which was set up to provide meaningful summer basketball games before a champion is crowned later in the summer, will invite the top 24 teams (out of 42) to play in the Nike Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C. Those 24 teams are determined through 4-5 games played in three different sessions--one in Hampton, Va., one in Houston and one in Los Angeles.
Two of those sessions are now done, with only Los Angeles left.
So what have we learned?
So far, the top Nike-sponsored summer teams appear to be in Division C and Division D. The St. Louis Eagles have rolled to a 9-0 record in Division C, while the New Jersey Playaz are 9-0 in Division D.
Howard Pulley is 8-1 in Division A, and there are six teams sporting 7-2 records—five in Divisions C and D.
The final "regular season" games will be in Los Angeles starting May 29. The EYBL finals at the Nike Peach Jam start July 12.
