The Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions 17-Under championships wrapped up on Sunday Afternoon. We'd like to thank our good friend Andre Whitehead for getting us the info on the Championship games from The Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill.
The 17-Under National Championship went to the Long Island Lightning as they edged the Michigan Mustangs 76-66 as National tourney MVP 6-foot-3 Derrick Gordan lit it up for 23 points in the championship game. He got solid support from 6-9 Kamari Murphy who finished with 14 points and double-digit boards. They received solid support from 6-3 Sequan Richards and 6-1 Kareem Canty who chipped in with 11 points each. The Michigan Mustangs were led by 6-8 Darnell Harris who finished with 19 points and double digit boards. He received solid support from 6-4 Deonte Burton who added 15 points and DeAndre Harris who chipped in with 13 points in the loss.
The 17-Under Select Championship was decided by a plane flight as the Memphis Magic won by forfeit over the New England Playaz. The Memphis Magic were led by 6-7 Adonis Thomas and 5-9 Chris Jones in the games we watched and could have been Co-MVP's if one had been named (no one was named in this division because of the forfeit). The New England Playaz top guns this weekend were 6-8 Alex Murphy and 7-foot rising junior Kaleb Tarczewski.
