City of Palms Classic Starts Friday

One of the top high school basketball tournaments in the country starts on Friday, as the State Farm City of Palms Classic is back for its 38th year.

Games will be played from December 17-22 at Bishop Verot High School in Fort Myers, Fla. Members of the iHoops staff will be in attendance.

The 16-team tournament field features 10 defending state champions, highlighted by Alpharetta Milton (Georgia), Bishop Gorman (Nevada), Christ the King (New York) and Melrose (Tennessee). Other teams participating are Arden Christ (North Carolina), Whitney Young (Illinois), Elizabeth St. Patrick (New Jersey), Dr. Krop (Florida), Norfolk Christian (Virginia), Orlando Christian Prep (Florida), Dwyer (Florida), Riverside Academy (Louisiana), Mater Dei (California), Fort Myers (Florida), North Port (Florida) and Winter Park (Florida).

In addition, the event will feature a four-team Signature Series which includes German team Ulm Urspringschule, and a Sunshine Series game featuring host Bishop Verot and Thomasville (Georgia).

Several big-time high school players will participate, including iHoops First Team members Austin Rivers, Adonis Thomas, Shabazz Muhammad, Noah Robothan, Paul White, Johnny Patterson, Evan Nolte, Julian Royal, Eli Stalzer, Xavier Johnson, Dakari Johnson, Austin Colbert, Chris Martin and Daniel Kuhl.

The 3rd place game and the championship game on Dec. 22 are scheduled to be televised on ESPNU. The 3rd place game tips off at 7:30 p.m. ET with the championship game starting at 9:30 p.m.
