About this event
Join us to explore the wild places that are occupied by water and the plants and animals that live there. We'll categorize aquatic habitats by general type and discuss some of those types that are available to explore within the state of Ohio. For the serious enthusiast, we'll also discuss some trainings that are available for volunteer programs in the state. Eugene Braig is a fisheries biologist by training and applied-limnology jack of all trades in practice; Program Director for Aquatic Ecosystems with Ohio State University (OSU) Extension; and charged with outreach, classroom teaching, and research. He is a past Assistant Director of F. T. Stone Laboratory (OSU’s biological field station) and the Ohio Sea Grant College Program (a program of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), a past chair of the Mississippi River Basin Panel (a regional advisory to the national Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force), a past president of the Water Management Association of Ohio and of the Ohio Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (and others), and a past regional director of the North American Lake Management Society. Eugene is also chair/coordinator of the Ohio Aquatic Invasive Species Committee (an "official" informal advisory to the state's agencies), a Trustee of the Ohio Biological Survey, serves on the Olentangy State Scenic River Advisory Council, is active with several additional advisories and professional organizations, and advises two student organizations at OSU. Fully embracing nerd status, he moonlights as a classical musician and serves as Artistic Director of the Columbus Guitar Society’s concert series and President of CityMusic Columbus.
