About this event
Imagine standing on a bluff overlooking the ocean, looking at the line where the sky and the ocean meet and wondering “What’s out there?” Ancient mariners would have answered, “Thar’ be dragons.” Now imagine you have just retired or will be retiring soon, and you are wondering, “What will I do now? What will get me up in the morning, excited to have another day?” Up until retirement your purpose was connected to your job. Now, you are free to explore “what’s out there” for you. The challenge is finding a purpose that excites you. Retirement is a major life transition that changes everything about how you think about yourself. One day your identity is defined by what you do; the next day, that identity is gone. You will probably feel lost. The good news is that this feeling is a normal part of the life cycle. Even better news: using guided journaling, you can explore where you are in life, how you got there, and the possibilities for the future, to help you find your own BEST FIT retirement – one that fills the days ahead with purpose and excitement. Join us in this interactive presentation as Dr. Bradley guides us through a few journaling exercises from his book, Finding Your Purpose When You Retire: What Comes Next in Life? A Guided Journal. Dr. Richard Bradley is a Worthington resident. His educational background includes a BA from Rutgers (1965), a Master of Divinity (Concordia, 1970), a Master of Theology from Princeton Seminary (1971), and a PhD from the College of Education at The Ohio State University (1983). He is a retired Lutheran minister and also worked with K-12 teachers locally, throughout Ohio, and nationally, teaching them how to integrate service-learning and character education into their classrooms.
