About this event

Description

National Lifeguard certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. This training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard’s role. It emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies, including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership, and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, a 50-meter sprint challenge, a 50-meter rescue drill, and a 400-meter endurance challenge. The program includes classroom and water activities. 100% attendance and participation are required.

Completion Criteria:

  • Attend and participate in 100 % of the course.
  • Successfully demonstrate competency in required skills, activities, and final evaluation.

Pre-Course Requirements:

  • 15 years of age
  • Bronze Cross (does not need to be current)
  • Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR C by the first day of the course (does not need to be current) from one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society Canada, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Canada, Criti-Care EMS.

  • National Lifeguard Award Guide

NLS Awards will be mailed to successful candidates by the Lifesaving Society. Certification of this award is for 2 years.

Next Lifesaving Level:

  • Lifesaving Instructor Course and Swim for Life Instructor



Nation Lifeguard awards are mailed to successful candidates by the Lifesaving Society.
Participants must give prerequisites to the instructor at the first class:
  • Proof of Age - 15 years of age
  • Bronze Cross (does not need to be current)
  • Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR C by the first day of the course (does not need to be current) from one of the following agencies: Lifesaving Society Canada, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance Canada, Criti-Care EMS.

  • National Lifeguard Award Guide

The following items are required in order to participate in this course:
  • 1 CPR pocket mask with a 1-way valve
  • 1 whistle (recommended Fox 40)
These items may be purchased at this facility or acquired independently.
The program includes classroom and water activities.
