About this event
Developed primarily for Windham’s adult residents this class mirrors the annual third-grade history experience and field trip presented for years in RSU 14. (Parents compete to get to be the chaperone!) Discover a brief overview of our town’s rich history, from the early aborigine and the founding families of the early 18th century, to the agricultural and industrial growth of the 19th century and the shift to a tourist economy. Topics for discussion include early Native American history, the Cumberland & Oxford Canal, the transformation of Windham neighborhoods and early schools (to be presented in our one-room schoolhouse on the Village Green history park). Windham turns 289 years old in 2026. Experience its rich and unique history through discussions, power-point presentations, visits to our history park, and a bus tour that stops at selected landmarks where our history was made. Four nights of class meetings, plus a Saturday field trip!
