Description
The course starts with the fundamentals: proper posture and hand position, learning the layout of the keyboard, and simple finger patterns. From there, students learn to read basic music in treble and bass clef, count rhythms, and keep steady time. They build skills using major and minor scales, basic chords, playing melody and chords together with both hands.
Once the foundational skills are built, each student chooses a style of music to focus on. Classical students work on beginner repertoire, jazz students learn chord voicings and swing feel, hip-hop and pop students learn common chord progressions and grooves, and hobby players learn familiar songs at a relaxed pace. The course ends with a short showcase where each student plays a piece in their chosen style.
By the end of the course, students will be able to read simple music, play basic scales and chords, coordinate both hands, and continue practicing on their own in a style they enjoy.
No additional materials needed. Keyboard is provided during class.
