Due to a weather cancellation on July 24th, we've decided that every week is Moth Week at Sandy Pines Preserve.
Join us at Sandy Pines on Saturday, August 1st from 8:00 pm—11:00 pm to take part in the fun!
We will use a common method of surveying moths called light sheeting, which involves setting up a sheet in a natural area and shining a bright light on it to attract moths and other nocturnal insects. We'll monitor the sheet throughout the night and identify anything that lands.
We'll meet in the Sandy Pines parking lot at 8:00 pm (7201 Doc Procter Rd, Wendell, NC 27591) and work adjacent to the parking lot and artificial wetland.
What to bring:Light (headlamp or flashlight preferable), close-toed shoes, chair, snack, water, dark clothing
What not to bring:Pets, bug spray (it's harmful to the insects we'll be working with)
Final decisions regarding weather will be made by 2:30 pm on August 1st.
