Painting Beautiful Landscapes on Locationw/Marc AndersonA three-day workshopFriday, September 25 - Sunday September 279:00am - 4:00pm
Learn how to paint beautiful landscapes on location! In this class, we will discuss the fundamentals of painting en plein air (on location) as well as more advanced topics like drawing, composition, and color theory. Day one of the workshop will begin with a 30 minute lecture and discussion on the core concepts of plein air painting. This will be followed by a 2.5 hour painting demonstration. Students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lecture and demonstration.The class will have a 1 hour lunch break.Afterwards, students will begin work on their own paintings while Marc gives individualized instruction to each student. Class will end at 4pm, but students may continue to paint if they wish. Days 2 and 3 will begin with a quick recap followed by a 3 hour demonstration. After a 1 hour lunch break, students will again spread out to tackle their own paintings. Marc will continue to make the rounds giving one-on-one instruction. The class will end with a group critique and discussion.
Supply ListSupply List Plein Air Supply List (For Oil Painters)• Mineral Spirits (Gamsol) in a container for cleaning out brushes.• Oil Medium in a container—(you only need one of these) Alkyd Medium, Neo Megilp, Liquin, or similar medium. Marc uses a 5-1-1 mixture of 5 parts Gamsol, 1 part linseed stand oil, and 1 part Damar varnish. (For all media)• Easel• Paper Towels• Trash Bag• Canvases or Panels (one for each day of the workshop)• pick a size you feel comfortable finishing or nearly finishing in 3 hours. I’d recommend between 8x10 up to 16x20. Marc will be using something around 12x16.• For oil painters: oil primed (or non-abosrbent acrylic primer) surface is preferred. Marc will be working on a ¼ inch plywood panel primed with Michael Harding Non-Absorbent Acrylic Primer.• Brushes—not all of these brushes are required, but it’s good to have a variety of shapes and sizes.• Rosemary & Co.
