n this class, we’ll use our own photographs- any references with clothed figures or a portrait- as a starting point for creating figurative paintings. Students will learn how to choose clear reference images, understand form and proportion, and build a strong composition. We’ll focus on value, color, and light to help you turn a photo into a successful painting.
You may work from older or more recent contemporary images.
This class is for intermediate to advanced painters who are comfortable with their materials and looking to develop their skills.
All mediums are welcome; the instructor works in oil.
First class: Please bring 2 medium-sized surfaces to paint on, your regular supplies, and a few figurative photos you’d like to work from.Size: 16x20-18x24 or even larger. Personal preference.
