SATURDAY, 9 AM - 5 PM, SUNDAY 9 AM - 3 PM In this two-day workshop, you will be introduced to the satisfying process of making your own willow basket, using the stake and strand method. You will make your own beautiful, unique, asymmetrical basket, topped by a handle of your choice. You will learn various weaving methods, including twining, waling and randing, and be introduced to willow weaving terms. Leave with a beautiful basket and the confidence to try another one by yourself at home. This workshop is suitable for beginners and also for those who have made a basket before. *Students should bring: - a 5-10 pound weight of some sort (dumbbell, rock, old flatiron, canoe weight, etc) - An old sheet for wrapping project at night to keep it from drying out - A piece of driftwood, tree branch, bamboo or horn or other handle of your choice. *Class price includes materials fee. *Willow can be challenging to work with, someone with hand issues or weak hands may find this class difficult.  Beth Bridgeman is a willow basketmaker and traditional skills instructor residing in Southwest Ohio. A former professor of sustainable practice at Antioch College and prior to that an Extension Educator with The Ohio State University, Beth is passionate about somatic learning (“the Great Remembering"), reskilling, and connecting community, culture and craft. Beth grows thirty-five varieties of willow in her willow coppice, and sells willow cuttings as well as her own baskets, accepts basket commissions, and teaches willow basketry locally and regionally in a variety of venues.
