Thursday August 6: 9 am - 6 pm, Friday August 7: 9 am - 12 pm Create an 8 x 8 ” piece of mosaic art work for indoor display, using a variety of materials such as stained glass, vitreous tiles and other beautiful glass. Have fun while you learn to cut glass and build your piece, tessera by tessera. You will learn about design, adhesives, preparing substrates for indoor use, etc. You will also learn how to grout and finish your piece. Students may bring their own simple design, but some basic design options will be provided by the instructor. Completed pieces will be grouted on the second day. *Class price includes materials fee. *Students bring an apron, face mask if you choose to mix your own grout, a pair of nitrile gloves that fit comfortably. Instructor will bring gloves as well. Shona D’Cruz is a Virginia based artist, teacher and owner of Blue Hyacinth Mosaics, LLC. Originally from India, Shona began her career as an early childhood educator and has always been connected to art, which led her to explore mosaics and fused glass art. Shona has participated in various art shows and has been awarded residencies to create collaborative projects with local school and medical communities. She has shown her work at the Strathmore, Gallery B and The Art League, among others, and is currently represented by Nepenthe Gallery in Alexandria, VA. She enjoys teaching mosaic and fused glass art to adults and children in her home studio and at various locations in the DMV area.
