*You must have auditioned and been accepted into the program prior to registering* The Theatre Lab’s Summer Acting Institute for Teens (SAIT) is designed to immerse young adults in the art of acting—from mastering the essential principles of the craft to participating in a public performance of a challenging contemporary work at the end of the four weeks. The curriculum includes audition seminars, improvisational workshops, voice and speech training, movement training, and scene study, as well as special programs designed to give interested students insight into the workings of the professional theatre community. In addition to the daily training, students will rehearse and perform Between Days (formerly Wolves in the Lion City) by playwright Randy Baker, who is also the Production Director. About the Play: Written by celebrated DC theatre artist Randy Baker, Between Days is a gripping contemporary drama that unfolds over the course of a single evening when everything changes for a group of American high school students living abroad in Singapore. Told through five overlapping fifteen-minute scenes, each from the perspective of a different table of students, the story explores friendship, peer dynamics, and moral responsibility as all paths converge a charismatic and troubled classmate whose reckless behavior may have irreversible consequences. Written by celebrated DC theatre artist Randy Baker, Between Days offers a sharp, compassionate look at adolescence, identity, and the moments that quietly redefine our lives. Between Days provides a powerful ensemble-driven acting experience that emphasizes naturalistic performance, emotional truth, and perspective-based storytelling. Students will also get the rare opportunity to workshop the script with the playwright, offering them a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how a play is shaped from page to stage.
