In this course, designed for students who have completed a year of Chemistry in high standing, we will investigate topics in chemistry that go beyond the level encountered in the introductory Chemistry class. Subjects covered will include advanced problems in: dimensional analysis, atomic and molecular structure, molecular geometries of hypervalent species, empirical and molecular formulas, and ideal stoichiometry, as well as calculation of quantized energy states in single-electron systems, and an introduction to quantitative chemical equilibria. Classes will consist of explanations, discussions, and group-based and individual problem-solving. Additional topics may be added as time and student interest dictate. While the course is intended to be taught fully in-person, instruction at distance is also an option. Enrollment is at the discretion of the instructor.
