About this event
This course is an introduction to computing, focusing on the fundamentals of computer science and its applications to real-world problems. Computer science has arguably become our most potent tool—connecting the world with software, solving difficult numerical problems in math and the sciences, and allowing us to learn new insights from big data with machine learning and AI. This course introduces the fundamentals necessary for future study in computer science, starting with the basics of variables, Boolean expressions, logic flow, loops, and arrays. After covering these foundations, we learn how to define and use functions and modules and applications and good practices for both. Finally, we cover the essence of modern programming, introducing the object-oriented paradigm and covering how we can define our own objects and data types. We conclude the course with a light introduction to time complexity, space complexity, and basic algorithms for sorting.
