Description
The VCM Orchestra is an ensemble designed to give students the opportunity to perform in an intermediate-level orchestra. This ensemble builds experience for students looking to audition for GVYO or for those looking to augment their current ensemble work. The VCM Orchestra meets for two 5-week intensive sessions each year followed by a performance in Alix Goolden Hall as part of the Intermediate Academy and Orchestras concert.
Winds, brass and percussion students should be playing at approximately an RCM 4-8 level. Intermediate Academy winds and brass students are automatically registered in this ensemble as part of their Intermediate Academy program and receive priority registration. Other open positions are filled through registration in early October that are open to all students. Students do not need to be studying with a private teacher or be a current VCM student to join this ensemble.
2026-2027 open positions:
- 2 oboe
- 2 clarinet
- 2 bassoon
- 1 French horn
- 1 trumpet
- 1 trombone

If the number of students who apply for the open positions is greater than the number of positions available, informal auditions will be held to determine which students will join the orchestra.
