About this event
This full-year high school course is taught from conservative founding principles with acknowledgment of America’s Judeo-Christian heritage. Students earn ½ credit in American Government (Fall) and ½ credit in Economics (Spring). First Semester: American Government (½ Credit) Students study the Constitution, its historical foundations, and the structure and function of the three branches. The course examines successes and failures in governing, individual rights, and the role of a morally grounded citizenry. Students learn to evaluate policy proposals, engage differing viewpoints thoughtfully, and complete a policy-focused research paper while building strong analytical and study skills. Second Semester: Economics (½ Credit) Students explore free-market and limited-government principles, the influence of natural law on America’s economic system, and the successes and challenges of U.S. economic policy. The course includes an overview of socialism, evaluation of current policy proposals, major economic systems, personal finance basics, and critical-thinking skills for civil engagement. BIO: Hi, I’m April! I’ve been married for twenty-three years and am the mother of three children whom I’ve homeschooled for over fifteen years. Our eldest graduated from Liberty University a few years ago, a joyful milestone for our family. I’m a lifelong learner who enjoys reading, gardening, and sailing, and I previously ran a hospitality business hosting guests from around the world. For the past five years, I’ve taught high school government and economics in homeschooling communities in Florida and California. My passion for these subjects grew while teaching my own children and seeing how important it is for young people to understand the ideas that shape society. As a Christian, I teach from a biblical worldview, emphasizing stewardship, human nature, and natural law as they relate to government and economics.
